What inspired you to become a travel advisor?
I was already doing it for free for all my family and friends! I've always loved travel and joked about being an advisor. When I finished teaching to stay home and raise my kids, I had no clue what my next steps were. I Googled “Travel Agencies in Cincinnati,” and within a week I had an interview—and a few days later, I started training!
Biggest challenges when starting out
Confidence—not just in the travel world, but in myself. I hadn’t worked in a professional setting in so long, and it took time to feel confident again. Having our amazing team behind me helped me know I was doing things right.
Proudest “I did that” moment
Anytime I have a Welcome Home call and hear how amazing the client’s trip was! Knowing I played a small part in creating their lifelong memories is such a rewarding feeling.
Hearing clients say their trip was the best of their life reminds me why I started—to help create lifelong memories for others.
Tools and resources that made a difference
Proper training, working collaboratively with a team, and listening to those who know more than me have made all the difference in my growth and confidence.
How has your lifestyle changed?
It’s an adjustment, especially for my kids. The first year you’re figuring it all out, but by year two or three you understand your clients and your planning rhythm, and balance becomes much more attainable.
Advice for new travel advisors
This is work—it isn’t easy, and you have to want to work hard. Self-motivation is key. If you’re driven to be your best, this career is incredibly fulfilling.
Destination that stole your heart
Ireland—without a doubt. The landscapes, the people, and the sense of home it gives me every time I visit make it my favorite place in the world.
